Monte Rosa 1.1 Public Release
After a wildly successful 18 weeks, which has seen the Monte Rosa environment scale up to 150 fully stable nodes, we’ve decided to release Monte Rosa 1.1 on January 17th! This new release came on the back of a 3-month effort focused on improving network stability and community insight. Read our blog for everything you need to know about Monte Rosa 1.1.
HOPR Staking Season 6 Launch
HOPR Staking Season 6 launched on January 26th 2023, at 2 pm CET.
As part of our continued evolution of the program, we’ve updated the parameters and added a whole new set of network rewards focused on node runners.
One last thing, for Season 6 we’ve rebuilt the staking website from scratch. Everything works the same way in terms of staking, locking NFTs and claiming rewards, but we’ve made a huge number of improvements under the hood to ensure a smoother experience and more accurate real-time information. It should also look much better on all screen sizes, including mobile.
You can get more information on the new UI and Season 6 in our blog.
The Road to RPCh
The Road to RPCh is the story of how the whole HOPR team came together to identify an important missing piece of the web3 stack, and how a wonderful new RPCh team was born to turn it from an idea into a real product.
This series (4 parts) isn’t going to focus on the technology behind RPCh — you’ll hear a lot more about that as we get closer to launch. Instead, we’re sharing something we don’t hear much about in crypto: the experience of creating RPCh from a product development angle. Forming the idea, designing the product, and building and training a team to get the product off the drawing board and in front of real users.
Dev Updates
January has been another productive month for our Devs, so here are the most important Dev Updates.
Migration from Hardhat to Foundry
This migration has been part of our larger Rust migration this year. The migration was a big commitment and effort by the team, with 5,000+ files changed. We decided to migrate our smart contract tool to Foundry as mentioned, for consistency with our Rust migration. All our HOPR packages are migrating to Rust, and although it’s not impossible to continue using Hardhat, having a hybrid of languages would mess up dependency management and strain CI. But beyond this, Foundry really differentiates itself in its testing capabilities with a host of features that make the experience much smoother than Hardhat.
Foundry provides blockchain forking for testing smart contracts.
Its “cheatcodes” can easily change the state of the EVM to mock any state or call.
Fuzz testing creates 256-unit tests with no extra effort. So you can test those edge cases with ease, and if any function acts differently, Foundry will give you the calldata used to produce this behaviour.
Finally, “cast” lets you interact with the blockchain without writing JavaScript to query states or opening a new client .
If you’re interested in the tech side of this migration you can read up in this thread:
HOPR has migrated its subgraphs to The Graph Protocol
We have migrated our subgraphs to their decentralised network and use this endpoint for our DAO voting, staking mechanism, and Network Dashboard. HOPR has only begun tapping into what this partnership offers. The Graph is a powerful tool for composability, enabling multiple dApps to integrate together. We look forward to our continued collaboration with The Graph and what this partnership brings.
